Redecorate

Redecorating is a fantastic way to add value to your home. You want to redecorate your spaces in a way that’s going to complement the style of your home overall, and with a few changes and additions, you’ll be able to makeover your spaces to create a new, fresh feeling.

Walls and ceilings are the envelope of any room and form the foundation of the design. You can use a material like Gyprock to create a new shape and intrigue in a room by adding a curved bulkhead or rounding the inside of a coffered ceiling to add drama and elegance.

Panels, coffers and cornices are beautiful design tools that really showcase how moulding can change the entire feel of a space with relatively little effort. Cornices (such as Gyprock’s collection of eight stunning cornice designs) can complement and balance interior design features and add detail and personality to a space.

If your home is a period home, adding wainscoting to a hallway or bedrooms is a fantastic way to emphasise historic detailing and double-down on the style of your property. This could be a winner on auction day if you have an interested party that loves that particular period style!

Consider adding a basement

Adding a basement to your property adds extra living space for your family (and potentially extra numbers to your sale price). But, in order to make sure your home stands the test of time, you need to make sure it’s done properly.

Sometimes known as permanent formwork, products like AFS Rediwall are perfect as a tough, low-maintenance load-bearing solution for subterranean structures such as basements. Rediwall’s components just snap or slide into place, interconnecting for a quick assembly to achieve an attractive structural wall. AFS Rediwall can be finished with a skim coat, Gyprock or rendered to give you the finish you are after.

If you’re building your home from the ground up, including a product like Bradford Insulation’s Total Home Comfort system in your internal walls can minimise acoustic transfer and keep your basement warm and dry.

To ensure the noise doesn’t carry between floors, consider a product like Hebel’s Powerfloor. This excellent flooring solution provides the feel of a concrete floor without the price tag and provides a number of thermal and acoustic benefits.

Add an extension

If your zoning permits do permit you to extend outwards, consider adding an extension. One thing this year has taught us is that more space at home is never a bad thing, whether it’s for an office or a home workout space – even just space to break the day up in between homeschooling sessions!

To create a high-quality extension, you’ll want to choose materials that blend well with your existing spaces. Or, you can alternatively choose to go with a more modern style extension attached to your existing home, as this is becoming a more and more popular design choice. You can call PGH Bricks on 13 15 79 or use this contact form to organise their free brick matching service, where they’ll be able to match one of their extensive brick range to your home’s existing bricks.

When adding an extension, don’t forget the details and make sure the new area is well insulated, ventilated and soundproofed for maximum comfort.

Make the most of your outdoor space

Giving your property a stunning garden or outdoor space that people really want to spend time in is another surefire way to boost the value of your property. There are plenty of DIY projects you can make with brick to makeover your garden on a budget, such as a brick fire pit or pizza oven. We loved Sarah and George’s back garden reveal from The Block 2020, where they used cream bricks to create a gorgeous circular garden bench seat and mix-matched bricks to create an industrial-chic style BBQ.

Create an entrance

Creating an attractive entrance is one way to make people fall in love with your property from the moment they park out the front. Increase your curb appeal by making sure you keep a neat and tidy front garden, as this is usually a clue for people as to how well-maintained the house is inside. With a little gravel and/or mulch, a gorgeous brick garden path and a shelter for your bins so they’re out of sight, you’ll be on your way to having many interested buyers. Be sure to also regularly clean and maintain the brick exteriors of your home as well as the garden, path and driveway to keep everything fresh and new-looking.

For some easy changes that increase curb appeal, consider updating the style of your windows or adding a statement front door for a pop of memorable colour.
