Kyle and Leslie – Winners!

Curves were the big winner in the first week on The Block, with Kyle and Leslie impressing the judges and top scoring with their curvaceous bathroom ceiling using Gyprock Flexible plasterboard and Aquachek, matching their curved mirror and round handbasins. Judge Darren Palmer said it was “just so elegant; so beautifully done”. We agree.

Leah and Ash

Coming fresh off their win in the decider challenge on The Block this week, Leah and Ash also tried to stay ahead of the curve with, you guessed it, a curved ceiling in their studio bathroom using Gyprock Flexible plasterboard and Aquachek. With a dark and dramatic colour scheme, their bathroom was all about luxury and we think they pulled it off. Their ‘super bold’ Venetian plaster ceiling was definitely a statement.

Kristy and Brett

Kristy and Brett’s Moroccan-style bathroom included a feature arch on @theblock (it’s all about the curves this year!) along with a bench seat, which involved a lot of tricky tiling and Gyprock Flexible plasterboard. We thought it was a strong room for the couple and showed some elegance in design and execution.

Steph and Gian

Architect Steph and start-up worker Gian stuck to their understated neutral palette reflecting their #japandi style, using recycled timber ceiling beams enhanced by natural light above the shower. It was a tough week for the couple (a lot of problems with their trades), but they finished. The judges weren’t fans of the beams, however, so we will have to see how the rest of the house pans out.

Eliza and Liberty

Sisters Eliza and Liberty have been on a steep learning curve this week (they tackled the all-important Bradford insulation themselves), but we loved their bathroom design, especially the feature tiles and the functional storage they included. The skylights added natural light and the beautiful colour palette gave it a “soft contemporary feel”, according to judge Shaynna Blaze.
